About Nosara: Our retreat center is located off the beaten path in the quiet town of Nosara near Playa Guiones, a beautiful 3-mile stretch of beach surrounded by lush vegetation. There are approximately 500 Ticos and around 200 emigrants from America and Europe living in the vicinity. You are truly in the jungle, and you will realize it when you awaken in the morning to the Howler monkeys stretching their vocal chords in the distance. In Nosara, everything slows down so you can unwind, relax and enjoy the lifestyle, which creates the perfect atmosphere to deepen your yoga practice and enjoy the exhilarating sport of surfing. There is cultural diversity here and likewise, an abundance of ethnically influenced eateries: French, German, Italian and American to balance the local Costa Rican fare. There is also a local market and internet café within walking distance.
About Surf Lessons: Three beginner surf lessons with all equipment are included in the retreat price. We will hold the surf lessons in the morning depending on swells. Additional lessons are available for those interested at $35 a lesson. All levels of surfers are welcome to come and enjoy a wonderful week of warm water and perfect waves. Please check with your airlines about bringing surfboards on your flights. Surfboard rentals are available from the retreat center.

You will need to bring your own set of portable weights on this retreat, and a set of ankle weights is recommended. To purchase weights visit: http://www.aquabells.com/specs.html
- Yoga, Pilates, and Surfing Retreat: In addition to the three surf lessons, we will offer three classes a day. In general there will be two 45 minute morning classes (one Vinyasa yoga, one Power Pilates) and one hour long evening class which will rotate from day to day from yoga and Pilates. Where can I learn more about Nosara and our retreat centerl?
Check out the center’s website: http://www.tierramagnifica.com Additionally, check out www.nosara.com for more information about the Nosara area. Also, check out the Lonely Planet’s guide to Costa Rica.
I need to stay in a night in San Jose, where can stay?
In previous years we stayed at Hotel Los Volcanoes in Alajuela, which is 5 minutes from the airport and it was wonderful http://www.montezumaexpeditions.com/hotel.htm The cost of the room includes, transportation from the airport, breakfast, which is served in their outside patio and high-speed internet. For those with slightly deeper pockets (and who like less noise) Pura Vida Hotel in Alajuela can’t be beat: www.puravidahotel.com
Where can I purchase my internal flight or bus ticket if I need it?
Sansa Air www.flysansa.com and Nature Air www.natureair.com both operate within Costa Rica. For more information go to www.interbusonline.com Please check with airlines and buses about luggage weight limits and surfboards.
What should I bring for money?
Low denomination US dollars are accepted most places. In addition, Visa and MasterCard are accepted at most establishments in Nosara. Per our own experience, “Travelers checks are hard to cash and really are not worth the hassle.” There is an ATM in Nosara (but it doesn’t always work).
What are bugs like?
BUGS! Yes in Costa Rica there are lots of insects, spiders, birds, lizards, monkeys and so on, this is the beauty of this country. With this amazing wildlife comes some concern and each person must take their own level of precaution. I would recommend insect repellant (perhaps containing that horrible substance known as DEET). I would recommend having long pants and shirts (light weight) for mosquito protection. I would also suggest wearing shoes (flip-flops or sandals) at all times in grassy areas so you do not step on anyone!
What is the weather like?
The climate is amazing! It is in the 80s during the day and can get humid. The evenings cool off to the low 70s and because it is the dry season, it most likely will not rain.
Is there a store to get basic toiletries?
Yes, there is a local market.
What of type of yoga will we practice & can yoga students of all abilities attend?
All levels of yoga students are welcome. The classes will be a variety of styles including Rasa Yoga, Partner work, Ashtanga, and Vinyasa Flow. Generally, we will offer two to three classes per day. Some students come to both classes while others practice once daily or take the day off, this it totally up to the student. We encourage you to listen to your body this is YOUR retreat!
What of type of Pilates will we practice & can Pilates students of all abilities attend?
All levels of Pilates students are welcome. We will gear our Pilates classes to the attendants. Our Pilates classes tend to be intense, but modifications will always be offered. Generally, we will offer two to three classes per day. Some students come to both classes while others practice once daily or take the day off, this it totally up to the student. We encourage you to listen to your body this is YOUR retreat!
What kind of abilities level can learn surfing?
The only requirement for surfing is the ability to swim and the desire to learn! Surfing is great fun. We’d recommend bringing a sleeved shirt to wear over your swimsuit so you don’t burn those gorgeous strong shoulders you’ll have by the end of the week (a surf shirt is best). Don’t forget your sunscreen, and if you’re a contact wearer that’s blind as a bat without them then maybe consider wearing goggles (don’t worry – Carrie will look dorky with you…she’s blind as a bat too and she’s learned first hand the joys of contacts and surfing..)
Can I sign up by myself?
Of course! We can generally pair you up with another group member or private rooms are available.
Can a non-surfing or non-yoga friend or spouse come?
Yes, they should come too! There are plenty of activities to do and places to relax for anyone! They may deduct $100 from the cost of the retreat.
