Cost -  $140 per series ($100 Dover Pilates Autobill Member) * Please note you must take 3 private sessions first before signing up for System. You may use the introductory special of 3 privates sessions of $100 to complete this requirement.

Pilates is known for it's amazing ability to strengthen your core, improve back stability and create a long, lean, supple look to the body.  There is simply no better way to get in shape than by working with the various pieces of Pilates Apparatus, which include the Reformer, Cadillac, Chair as well as a few other small pieces.

Today's Reformers and Cadillacs are modeled closely after Joseph's first pieces used in his New York studio. The design includes: a spring loaded moving carriage, leather straps and an adjustable footbar. The resistance created by the springs and straps enables the bodies to become lengthened and strong. Clients move through a detailed system of classical exercises lying face down, face up, sitting and standing.   

The most famous piece of the Pilates Apparatus is the Reformer which was designed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920's.  The Reformer was originally a system of springs and pulleys created from hospital beds that were used to rehab injured soldiers in Europe. After Joseph relocated to NYC this amazing system became popular with famous dancers such as Balanchine and Graham for both exercise and rehab, and it remains more popular than ever today.

Each of our System Classes are limited to four people. In this class the focus will be on moving through the traditional Pilates Reformer and Trapeze system in a group setting. Working in a group of four keeps the Pilates work more affordable for the client, but still allows for tons of individual attention.  It is a requirement that all System Participants go through 3 private sessions before beginning their System Class. This is for safety and to keep everyone on the same page so we can progress at a consistent, and more rapid pace. (picture compliments of Power Pilates Institute)

We are also open to scheduling System Classes at a time that is convenient for smaller groups. So if you have three friends who would all like to start one of the most amazing workouts available give us a call!

 

About the Instructors

Carrie Tyler, RYT, PYT  Dover Yoga and Dover Pilates owner and studio director has been practicing yoga and Pilates since the late 90's and teaching both since 2001.  She is the creator of Rasa Yoga she is known for her playful style of teaching, her strong knowledge of anatomy and alignment, her understanding of yogic philosophy, and how the body moves and works on both energetic and physical levels.  Her passion for anatomy and movement comes from her kinesiology background and experience over the last 20 years in modern & African dance, aerial fabric, classical figure drawing, and studies in various forms of yoga.  It is her belief that yoga and Pilates are appropriate for every body and that through the process of yoga one can unleash their true energetic and creative potential.  Carrie considers yoga, Pilates and complimentary healing therapies to be preventative medicine, and adheres to the belief that regular practice and self care can reconcile many imbalances and dis“eases” of the body.  She has her 500hr PYT (professional yoga therapist) and 200hr RYT certification through Integrative Yoga Therapy, and is currently pursuing a degree in Exercise Science/ Kinesiology at the University of New Hampshire.  Her certifications in Pilates Mat and Reformer work are from the highly respected Power Pilates Institute. In addition Carrie holds certifications in Prenatal Yoga, Thai Bodywork, and Reiki. In addition to teaching yoga classes, Pilates classes, and leading workshops and retreats in New England and abroad, Carrie trains future yoga teachers alongside Daniel Orlansky in a 200hr yoga teacher training, The Yoga of Energy Flow.  She is available for private consultations and specializes in creating programs for those with medical concerns, injury rehabilitation, and structural  issues. Sheila Varden-Straffin
is a certified Pilates and Yoga instructor. She has been certified and teaching Pilates for 3 years and Yoga for 2 years to a variety of clientele. She began her practice of Pilates 6 years ago and yoga 4 years before that. She is currently enrolled in the Power Pilates System Training in Boston and the Yoga of Energy Flow 200 Hour Teacher Training course at Dover Yoga. She enjoys Pilates and Yoga because they complement each other so well. She is especially excited about the Pilates apparatus and the new dimension it brings to the Pilates practice.  She lives in Strafford with her husband, Dennis, and 2 cats. She enjoys the outdoors and riding her motorcycle.
